Nobel’s Kitchen Fire Suppression System fitted at Castle Howard

Familiar to millions as the fictional ‘Brideshead’ in television’s Brideshead Revisited, Castle Howard is a magnificent 18th-century residence set within 1,000 acres of landscaped gardens in North Yorkshire. It’s one of the country’s leading visitor attractions and had almost ¼ million visitors in 2012.

On the advice of Castle Howard’s insurers, the central kitchen which provides all the food for the on-site restaurants and cafe has just had a new fire suppression system fitted. As part of the process, the estates manager contacted a number of companies before awarding the contract to Nobel Fire Systems. This followed a site survey by Nobel’s engineers and their response to the Castle Howard brief that demanded practicality and efficiency combined with aesthetics for this important project.

Nobel has now seamlessly installed its award winning K-Series fire suppression system into the busy kitchen environment. Manufactured in stainless steel to enhance the working life and endurance of the product, all pipework, nozzles, detection and controls have been installed in complete sympathy with the appearance, functionality and strict hygiene requirements of the Castle Howard kitchen.

The electrical nature of the K-Series system ensures that all circuits can be fully monitored for fault conditions and therefore provides a distinct advantage over other ‘mechanical’ systems. Castle Howard now has full protection to all its cooking appliances and extract canopy through this tailor made fire suppression system.

Ben Parker, Commercial Director of Nobel Fire Systems commented;
“Today, the aesthetics of contemporary physical space in commercial kitchens is becoming an increasingly important consideration for owners and designers. We believe that it’s therefore imperative that we contribute products that deal with that requirement positively and creatively. The Nobel K-Series system does just that”.

The K-Series system is C.E. Marked and is approved and certified to LPS 1223; ISO 15371:2000. Marine type approval includes Lloyds; MCA; ABS; DNV; GL; RINA; Korean Register and BV.
