Nobel provides LP Watermist System
Nobel Fire Systems has installed its VID Fire-Kill Model K6 low pressure watermist system in the machinery and gas turbine facilities of Heat Recovery Solutions UK. HRS is a leading specialist in the provision of energy recovery solutions for the oil, gas and process industries worldwide.
Nobel’s watermist system has been installed in the main plant area which is located on the ground floor of the facility. The design, supply and installation by Nobel’s own team of engineers have been carried out in accordance with FM 5566 fire protection in relation to the ACC structure.
VID Fire-Kill Model K6 is an active fire protection system designed for installation in large machinery and turbine enclosures and provides environmental friendly fire protection combining the well tested technologies from sprinkler deluge systems with modern water mist technology.
The key to the success of any water mist system is the ability of small water droplets (micro-drops) to extinguish, suppress or control a fire extremely efficiently, by means of, heat absorption, inerting & radiant heat shielding. These micro droplets significantly increase the efficiency at which the water interacts with the flame and creates an ability to provide a high speed absorption of the energy created by the fire producing rapid flame and heat knock down and dissipating the heat from the area.
Nobel’s system provides a large number of user benefits including; reliable and effective fire suppression with very low water consumption, low water densities, a simple rigid pipe system with low risk of nozzles clogging, minimal water supplies required, low maintenance costs, all system components are FM approved, simple to operate.
VID Fire-Kill Model K6 Is a Fine Water Spray Fire Fighting System, which is designed and approved to established sprinkler standards in addition to building and insurance codes.
In the case of Heat Recovery Solutions the system utilises I/R detection on a cross zoned arrangement in order to achieve “Double Knock” (coincidence control) which in effect, eliminates the potential for false activations.
In the event of a fire, a detector will sense the fire and send a signal to the installed Nobel control panel. This can also be programmed to communicate with BMS or the existing house alarm system. This then triggers an audible and visual signal via a sounder and strobe units tactically placed around the HRS site and alerting staff to a potential fire situation.
If a second detection unit then confirms that it also senses the fire condition a confirmatory signal is sent to the control panel and the system commences its discharge via the strategically placed nozzles. This will then deal with the fire very quickly in an environmentally friendly and effective manner
Commenting on the installation at Heat Recovery Solutions, Ben Parker, Commercial Director at Nobel Fire Systems commented;
“Because the VID Fire-Kill Model K6 system uses low quantities of water it is naturally environmentally safe, non-toxic and people friendly. When those qualities are combined with fast, intelligent detection and immediate response, you have a cost-effective fire protection system that’s ideally suited for total compartment protection of machinery spaces, partitioned gas turbine generators (FM approved) and other similar applications”.
