Nobel flying high with Lisi Aerospace
Leading fire suppression company Nobel Fire Systems has recently installed its Stat-X condensed aerosol system on CNC machines in Lisi Aerospace’s manufacturing facility at Rugby, UK.
Lisi components and sub-assemblies can be found in almost every aircraft in the world and contribute to the aircrafts integrity, performance and above all flight safety. They have more than 300 customers in 30 countries and therefore rely heavily on the performance of their manufacturing assets, particularly the CNC machines.
Nobel’s specialist installation team initially provided a risk based analysis across the range of Lisi’s CNC machines before installation took place.
Based on aerosol technology, the Stat-X family of fire suppression systems is a patented potassium-based aerosol that suppresses fire by chemically ‘interfering’ with the free radicals of flame. In the event of a fire, Stat-X generators can be activated either manually or automatically via the integrated thermal detector. On activation, the generators produce an exceptionally effective, ultra-fine, potassium based aerosol which is environmentally friendly with zero ozone depletion and no global warming potential.
Unlike gaseous systems, Stat-X aerosol generators are very cost effective to install and maintain – as they don’t require the pressure vessels, piping or expensive installation costs associated with other extinguishing systems. Space and weight requirements are minimal and as in the case of Lisi Aerospace make the task of fitting the system an easy and viable option.
Another big advantage of the system lies in the fact that should the worse happen and the system is activated, there are no clean up requirements as the fire suppression medium reacts chemically with the fire to extinguish the flames. Any downtime of machinery is therefore minimal
Other benefits include, Stat-X aerosol generators are virtually maintenance free and have a shelf life of over 10 years. This, coupled to their very low installation cost, makes them an extremely cost effective fire protection solution
Nobel’s Commercial Director Ben Parker commented, “We have vast experience in the provision of fire suppression solutions for the machine tool industry. End users continue to demand tighter tolerances, faster deliveries, and lower costs. It’s therefore essential that companies such as Lisi can resolve concerns about ease of use and cost. We’re delighted to have been able to provide this element of the service required by Lisi Aerospace”.
