Bankside Sub-Station
This massive investment at Bankside sub-station run by EDF Energy was deemed necessary because of the population growth in the South East of the country and the resultant increase in business productivity – most of which relies heavily on IT systems that need a 24 hour uninterrupted power supply.
Nobel were commissioned to design, supply and install a water mist fire suppression system that extends and covers 13 separate zones. These zones include storage and transformer rooms many of which have associated plenums running up to roof level.
As if that wasn’t a big enough challenge, Nobel also had to cater for fire protection extending under the famous ‘Tate Modern’ which lies immediately to the front of the sub-station.
This enormous project is a clear indicator of the regard with which Nobel is held in the fire suppression industry and remains very high profile given that the sub-station provides power to Canary Wharf and other key commercial locations in London.
