A Sparkling Refurbishment

A sparkling refurbishment masterminded by renowned chef Heston Blumenthal at his three Michelin Starred, The Fat Duck restaurant in Bray, Berkshire, has resulted in a new look which also includes a state of the art kitchen created by leading kitchen designers, SHW, SeftonHorneWinch.

As part of the overall kitchen design and installation process, great care was taken to ensure an efficient and safe working environment for staff and customers. To this end, Halton Foodservice, specialists in kitchen environment solutions and who also worked on the refurbishment programme, commissioned Nobel Fire Systems to design and install a fire suppression system that would meet the critical fire safety demands while also maintaining the character and aesthetics provided by all other aspects of this high quality kitchen refurbishment.

Following discussions with all parties, Nobel designed and installed a K-15 system to protect all appliances in The Fat Duck main kitchen together with an NFS 4 suppression release control panel. Nobel also installed a K-5 system fire suppression system and NFS 4 control panel to protect the Salamander rise and fall grill located on an island canopy which is also situated in the main kitchen. As part of its overall service, Nobel carried out necessary interfacing work between the fire system control panel and gas interlock panel in order to shut off the supply to the appliances in the event of the system actuating.

“On this incredibly prestigious project we employed proven, totally efficient and sophisticated high-tec products while also being able to provide the cutting-edge aesthetics demanded by the design team, ensuring that The Fat Duck kitchen concept is not compromised in any way”.
