Next Generation Fire Protection System for Enclosed Spaces
When Clydeport’s maintenance team and their Insurers decided to install a fire suppression system in numerous critical areas within their control tower and two giant offloading cranes, it turned to Nobel Fire Systems and the next generation fire protection system for enclosed spaces – a clean, compact, cost effective, and safe system called Stat-X. Only available in the UK and throughout Europe from Nobel Fire Systems, Stat-X kills fires quickly and efficiently. Before installing the system in the tower and off loaders, Nobel carried out a discharge demonstration of Stat-X in one of the Port’s outside switch rooms sufficiently impressing the Clydeport team with the speed, effectiveness and cleanliness of the system.
One of the biggest advantages of Stat-X is that on an agent weight basis, Stat-X aerosol can be up to ten times more effective than gaseous agent alternatives. Therefore in an environment where weight and space is critical in nature this compact, lightweight and unobtrusive product suited the installation perfectly. With the added benefit of being environmentally friendly with zero ozone depletion and zero global warming potential, the system has ultra fast fire knock down and possesses long post fire security due to the potassium aerosol being suspended in the air of the enclosure for up to an hour. Another major advantage is that leakage through structures can be compensated for and should a fire break out, suppression is rapidly achieved through chemical interaction between the ultra-fine potassium aerosol particulates produced and the flame’s free radicals, terminating propagation of the fire. There is no reduction in oxygen levels within the protected enclosure.
As Clydeport has found, Stat-X aerosol generators are cost effective to install with very little maintenance requirements and a shelf life of over 10 years.
The operations team at Clydeport, who are part of Peel Ports, initially contacted Nobel Fire Systems on the recommendation of Allianz Insurance and the system had to be fitted to an exacting schedule by Nobel’s installation team in order to meet the Port’s busy operational requirements.
