Application Airport Sitewide Protection

In addition to individual applications or risks, Nobel has designed, installed and maintained many and varied fire suppression systems to provide site-wide protection on behalf of clients.

An airport is a good example of a site with multiple ‘active’ fire protection requirements, over and above the general sprinkler and passive fire elements visible to the general public within the general fabric of the terminal buildings. At Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Stat-X was specified to protect many different ‘hidden’ risks including the control tower, receiver room, lift motor room, LV/HV rooms, battery rooms, comms rooms, and cable trench. Separately, on behalf of an airport ground handling company, Nobel has supplied Stat-X to be installed on plane de-icing vehicles, protecting the engine bay and gas boiler area.

At Volac’s biomass energy site, Nobel was asked to protect diverse risks such as the warehouse used for stocking the biomass material, the 24 hour feed ram to the furnace, the furnace hydraulic ram, the thermal oil pumps, non-critical oil pumps, diesel generator room, turbine room, control room and LV switch room. Fire Suppression systems installed include Stat-X, Foam and Watermist.

Foam

These systems can use the full range of fire fighting foams and utilise low pressure (4-14 bar) mist technology nozzles. The risk dictates the suppression medium, type and quantity of nozzles used, their position and flow rates. Correct selection of the fire detection system, integration to controls and shut downs enables fast management and control of the fire scenario.

Dry Chemical

Nobel dry chemical fire suppression systems offer a range of fixed and portable dry chemical powder fire extinguisher systems to cover all classes of fire as an alternative to other suppression mediums.
